More than Seven Million Nigerians Will Face Hunger between June and August 2020 –Report

At least seven million Nigerian would face hunger between June and August in Nigeria in 2020.

The report says that over four million people would face food insecurity in May.

The CH Analysis was facilitated by, among others, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the World Food Program (WFP).

The Analysis is a regional framework that provides a consensual analysis of acute food insecurity across West African countries.

FAO during the presentation of the report on Thursday in Abuja said the figures could have worsened if not for the government and the massive intervention of humanitarian communities.

FAO’s Representative in Nigeria, Alhasan Cisse, explained that the survey, which was launched in 2015, has formed the basis on which the government and other relevant stakeholders plan their interventions to curtain the extremities of food crisis.

In its reaction, FMARD has said this year’s report would help the ministry identify regions with prevailing acute food and nutrition security crisis.

The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mu’azu Abdulkadir, who was represented by Anthony Amu, added that the report has been the most acceptable and informative tool for classifying states into the five phases of food nutrition and insecurity.
